Some of us were not fortunate enough to see Dio live, but now, you have a second chance. Sort of. Well, you get to see a hologram of Dio performing.
Last year, in August, the hologram debuted at the Wacken Open Air music festival in Germany. Dio’s hologram was featured in the concert performing “We Rock”, with former bandmates. This is the first rock hologram performance, and also the first time a live band performed with it. The Hologram is created by Eyellusion, with CEO Jeff Pezzuti telling Talking Metal that for this upcoming tour, fans will get to see Dio from different eras. For example, the one from Wacken was around ’88, so we can expect a Dio hologram from any era.
Along with the hologram, fans will also get to see Tim Ripper Owens and Oni Logan. Ripper Owens is the voice behind Malmsteen’s album Rising Force, and Oni Logan is the lead singer for Lynch Mob, along with Craig Goldy on guitar, Simon Wright on drums, Bjorn Englen on bass and Scott Warren on keys. The band has been performing together as Dio Disciples.
Fans have expressed mixed emotions regarding the hologram, while some are happy to just enjoy a live show, many complained the hologram is just unnecessary and people are just trying to make money off Dio’s legacy. Regardless of their feelings, the tour is happening.
So how do you feel about it? Dio fans, will you be attending any of the shows?
