American indie rock band, My Morning Jacket, have announced they will be embarking on a headline summer tour.
Commencing in Cincinatti, Ohio on the 22nd of June, the tour will span thirteen dates, ending in North Adams, Massachusetts on the 12th August.
Not only will My Morning Jacket be bringing their signature brand of psychedelic folk rock, they have decided to bring a plethora of support acts across different genres. Gary Clarke Jr. will be opening for the band with the dirty, electric blues he is so renowned for and Margo Price, hailed as country’s next superstar, will be bringing the Nashville vibes.
The lesser known acts on the bill include The Record Company, who will be providing a melting pot of blues, punk and rock ’n’ roll, and The Districts, who will bring their brand of garage-rock-meets-folk sensibilities. Probably the most left field act to appear on the bill is Jaw Gems, who are known for experimental and psychedelic hip-hop beats.
My Morning Jacket formed in 1998 as an outlet for singer/songwriter Jim James. With a sound rooted in rock and country, the band’s sound has grown to include many folk and psychedelic influences. My Morning Jacket have released seven albums since their debut, The Tennessee Fire (1999). Their breakthrough album, Z (2005) was included in Rolling Stone’s list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time at number 457. Their latest album, Waterfall, was released in 2015.
Never short of a sense of humour, the band appeared as themselves in an episode of American Dad! in 2009. A clip from the episode, titled “My Morning Straitjacket” can be viewed below.
